Home Learning Tasks
Home learning assignments and independent study are an important feature of the students' programme of study.
They need to be able to research, investigate, experiment and evaluate outside the classroom and home learning assignments should make up a significant proportion of their work during the course. Home learning is often a natural consequence or extension of investigations undertaken in class. It can involve a mixture of both research and practical tasks. These are closely related. A typical homework might be:
Research the photographs of Ralph Eugene Meatyard and experiment making your own photographs using long shutter speeds. Record your observations and experiments in your Critical Studies
book.
Our aim is to encourage our students to become increasingly independent and self-motivated learners. In order to
achieve this, students must be taught how to manage their time effectively and make the best use of the many resources available to them.
The length of time allocated for home learning depends on the nature of the task set. The Critical Studies
books are continually assessed and form an important element in the final assessment of the students' work at the end of the course. It is vital, therefore, that all home learning is completed to the best of the students'
abilities. Students are required to bring their books to all lessons since the beginnings of lessons often involve sharing the results of home learning investigations.
We are experimenting with issuing home learning tasks using the Show My Homework website.
